TCVS Methodology
Turkish Covid-19 Value Study (TCVS) survey was developed by Dr. Ceylan Engin and the research team at the Boğaziçi University Sociology Data Lab (SDL). The initial survey underwent a pre-pilot study with 10 respondents, which was instrumental in identifying and addressing issues such as survey length, question clarity, ordering, non-response, and ensuring questions were mutually exclusive and exhaustive. These refinements, based on pre-pilot feedback, enhanced the validity and reliability of the survey.
Collaboration with “Binom Research and Consulting Services” facilitated the survey scripting, surveyor training, and data collection processes. Survey scripting involved transitioning the questionnaire from paper to software format. Once scripting was completed, the surveyor team received training. A subsequent post-pilot study, conducted with 15 respondents, identified minor issues related to question clarification. Based on these results, the questionnaire was finalized.
The survey was administered through face-to-face interviews using the Computer-Assisted Personal Interviewing (CAPI) method. For Likert scale questions, participants were provided with answer cards, while for sensitive topics, such as sexuality, participants used tablets to ensure privacy.
All fieldwork adhered to Covid-19 safety protocols:
- Surveyors and field personnel had their HES codes checked regularly.
- Masks were replaced several times a day.
- Interviews were conducted while maintaining a 1.5-meter social distance.
- Participants were offered disinfectants before the interview.
Fieldwork took place between April 15 and May 28, 2022. Financial support for the study was provided by the Boğaziçi University Scientific Research Projects (BAP).
